Choosing Your Holiday Location

We've listed below every village or town that has accommodation available throughout North Wales. Many places are in rural locations, so often we've selected the nearest town or village - but check the listing for full details. We've also seperated these towns into larger regions, 'North Snowdonia', 'South Snowdonia' & 'Wales Coast'.:

North Wales for Walkers and Climbers
If it’s the big fella you’re looking to climb, then Snowdon can be climbed directly from Llanberis, Beddgelert and Rhyd Ddu. If it’s the Glyders, Tryfan or Moel Siabod then Capel Curig and Betws Y Coed also make great bases with a superb choice of pubs serving excellent locally sourced Welsh produce. For the Carneddau, any northern coastal town is ideal, including scenic Conwy, Penmaenmawr or the bustling historic town of Caernarfon. If it’s Cnict or the Moelwyns that’s on your tick list, you can’t beat Porthmadog or the Vale of Ffestiniog for a real taste of North Wales or alternatively if it’s the remoteness of The Rhinogs, then consider Harlech, Llanbedr or perhaps Trawsfynydd too. Southern Snowdonia is quieter walking country but doesn’t lack for big mountains with Cader Idris a huge favourite for many. Barmouth and Dolgellau are great bases if you wish to climb this iconic peak.
Family Holidays
Snowdonia and the nearby Lleyn Peninsula are blessed with superb beaches making North Wales a great place for a family holiday on the coast. The pretty harbour village of Aberdovey has long been a popular holiday destination in Wales, as has Barmouth on the other side of the estuary - both sporting fabulous soft sandy beaches and fun for all the family. The wide sandybeaches further up the coast at Tal y Bont, Dyffryn Ardudwy and Harlech make for a great spot to kick the ball around with the kids or simply relax and enjoy a little peace and quiet and enjoy the views across the bay. More great beaches can be found on nearby Llyn Peninsula, including a number of super family beaches near Porthmadog and Criccieth and all along the cost to Abersoch. A few miles further don’t miss Aberdaron for a bit of kite flying  or windsurfing or further around on the northern coastline, the beach at Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) is a unique treat for the kids with soft golden sands that ‘squeak’ with every step.
Attractions and Days Out
There are many pretty villages in Snowdonia with tea shops, souvenir shops and walking gear shops too. Betws y Coed is a great place to get kitted out with many gear shops, or visit Beddgelert and simply sit and enjoy Welsh Tea Cake and cuppa whilst admiring the stunning scenery. There are many castles in North Wales all worthy of a visit and some seem to have been taken straight out of the pages of a fairytale, including the iconic Harlech Castle and the majestic castles at Caernarfon Castle and Conwy. There’s also smaller, but no less exquiste examples at Criccieth, Llanberis and Dolwyddelan and many other scenic locations throughout Snowdonia and North Wales.

Activity Holidays in North Wales

Wherever you stay in Snowdonia, there’s an activty holiday on your doorstep. Many of the beaches in North Wales have watersports availabile, as do some of the lakes inland too, including Bala Lake. Aberdovey, Abersoch and Aberdaron have a plethora of activities on the water and make great places for an action packed holiday. Of course, the mountains are Snowdonia’s real claim to fame, and there’s no better place to get to gribs with the great outdoors than at Play Y Brenin Mountain Centre in Capel Curig. However, you can’t go wrong in Snowdonia if mountains are your’ll find activity centres across the whole of the Snowdonia National Park and in many of the nearby towns and villages. Mountain bikers are also spoilt for choise with super trails and activities at Coed Y Brenin and Gwydyr Forest Parks.
